Which certifications help me get recognised in the industry?

Am I a Business AnalystWhat are the benefits of becoming a certified project manager?

For the individual project manager, certification means greater project credibility, that projects run with a greater level of skill and organisational understanding, and shows a commitment to personal development.

For the employing organisation, there are many advantages to making sure their employees get the relevant certifications.
It creates a common platform to work from and fosters smoother communication within the project teams.

For the customer, it is shows that the work delivered will be to a high standard and will be of good quality.

Which certifications would suit me?

There are a number of different certifications in project management out there. They are typically based on your current level of experience. At ESI, we offer in-house certifications from our academic partner, the George Washington University, which will give you in-depth knowledge in all areas of project management. Our courses are also aligned with the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK®) from the PMI® which means that you can take our courses towards gaining an internationally recognised certification such as PMP® or PgMP®.

Recommended Certificates:

If you have no more than 3 years of project management experience:

Associate's Certificate in Project Management with ESI and the George Washington University

Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM®) from the Project Management Institute (PMI®)

If you have between 3 and 7 years of project management experience:

Master's Certificate in Project Management with ESI and the George Washington University

Project Management Professional (PMP®) certificate from the Project Management Institute (PMI®)

If you have 7 or more years of project and/or programme management experience:

Advanced Master's Certificate from ESI and the George Washington University

Programme Management Professional (PgMP®) certificate from the Project Management Institute (PMI®)

I would like to know which is the fastest way to obtain a PMP® certification

Are you already:

An experienced project manager?

Using project management terminology in your everyday job?

Meeting most of the PMI's PMP® requirements?

If YES - we recommend that you attend the following courses:

Scheduling and Cost Control - Level Intermediate

Risk Management - Level Intermediate

The above two courses cover nearly 80% of the PMP® exam and are therefore very important!

Our PMP® Exam preparation courses help you to structure your studies and learn the best answers before the exam. Our instructors are PMP® certified and will explain in detail what you will experience on the exam and the type of questions you will face. They will also answer any questions and address any uncertainties that you may have.

PMP® Exam Power Preparation - 5 day preparation course

Each knowledge area as described in the PMBOK® Guide will be examined in detail. Our preparation courses provide you with studying materials, a "mock test" and a copy of the PMBOK® - all to give you the best opportunity to get your PMP® certification at the first attempt!

How do I maintain my certification from PMI®?

Maintaining your Certification

To retain your PMP® and PgMP® credentials, the PMI® requires that you earn 60 Professional Development Units (PDUs) every 3 years (for the CAPM® credential you need to re-take an exam after 5 years). Each hour of learning on our courses earns you 1 PDU. Our public, etraining and virtual courses earn you between 15 - 28 valuable PDUs. To find out how many PDUs you can earn per course, visit the individual course descriptions.

Other ways of earning PDUs

Live webinars:
Every year we organise a series of free live Webinars which deal with the latest topics within project management and they typically award between 1-2 PDUs.

Webinar and Podcast Library:
We have a library of pre-recorded webinars for you to access at any time.

Breakfast Seminars:
We regularly organise breakfast seminars which are hosted by our instructors and industry leaders. This is a great opportunity for you to meet and network with your peers and get to know more about ESI. Click here for more information on our upcoming events.

Reporting PDUs

To report your PDUs, you will need to submit a Professional Development Activities Reporting Form directly to PMI®. This form can be found on the PMI® website at www.pmi.org

PMI®, PMP®, CAPM®, PgMP®, PMBOK® Guide and the PMI Registered Education Provider logo are registered marks of the Project management Insititute, Inc. registered in the United States and other nations.
